Religious & Spiritual Renewal Committee

The NAHNS Religious and Spiritual Renewal Committee is called upon to Cultivate, Educate, Promote and Communicate the Spirituality of the Confraternity of the most Holy Names of God and Jesus. This committee assists Holy Name Society members to promote devotion to the most holy Names of God and Jesus and grow in holiness and obtain their personal salvation.

Initiatives and Activities

This committee provides information and education on the Spirituality of the Holy Name Society. Public Information initiatives are designed to deepen the understanding of the Spirituality of the Holy Name Society and to help members grow in holiness.

This committee is asked to promote proper formation of Holy Name Society members through catholic religious education, prayer and worship. Prayer is the foundation for growing in holiness. This Committee encourages and provides resources for (Arch)Diocesan Unions and parish Holy Name Societies to sponsor prayer vigils, memorial masses, retreats, days of recollection and other devotions.

This Committee develops, publishes and promotes prayer cards and other devotional materials that promote personal and public devotion to the Most Holy Names of God and Jesus and make them available to members, potential members and the Catholic public through the NAHNS Store and develops resource materials that guide (Arch)Diocesan Unions and Parish Holy Name Societies sponsor and promote Eucharistic Adoration, Benedictions, prayer cenacles and other forms of individual and public worship.

Responsibilities

  1. Communicate and educate Holy Name Society members about the spirituality of the Confraternity of the Holy Names of God and Jesus and the Obligations and Spiritual benefits of membership.


  2. Provide national leadership, including consultation and resources for (Arch)Diocesan Unions, parish Holy Name Societies, and individual members, on individual and public devotion to the most Holy Names of God and Jesus.


  3. Assist (Arch)Diocesan Unions and parish Holy Name Societies through education and training by providing resources and services to promote proper spiritual formation of members consistent with the spirituality of the Confraternity entrusted to the Dominican Order


  4. Promote the celebration of the Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus (currently an optional memorial on January 3rd).


  5. Improve communication and ties with the Leadership of Dominican Provinces and the Dominican Promoters of the Holy Name Society to ensure timely generation of Charters for Parish Holy Name Societies.


  6. Update and keep current the “Spiritual Directors / Moderators Handbook” for parish Priests to help maintain the proper spiritual and devotional aspects of (Arch)Diocesan Union and Parish Holy Name Societies entrusted to their care.

Committee Membership

The Religious and Spiritual Renewal Committee contains the National Spiritual Moderator, the Dominican Promoters of the Holy Name Society from each of the Four Dominican provinces in the United States, selected Spiritual Moderators of (Arch)Diocesan Unions and selected/and or appointed lay members of the NAHNS.
