Travel:

Santa Fe is located in Northern New Mexico, about an hour's drive north of Albuquerque. Some ways to get to Santa Fe include; car, train, air, or bus.

Via Train The Amtrak Southwest Chief, which travels from Chicago to Los Angeles, stops in Lamy, New Mexico. Lamy is about 20 miles from Santa Fe. The Lamy Shuttle (505-577-8829) offers transport to the city from the train station by reservation.

Via Bus Greyhound Lines operates out of the Santa Fe Bus Station with two departures and two arrivals daily. 858 St. Michael’s Drive, 505-471-0008, greyhound.com.

Via Air Two airports are available for those traveling by air: ABQ and SAF. 1. Albuquerque (Albuquerque International Sunport , ABQ) is 60+ miles south of Santa Fe. This airport offers more flight options from more cities. If you arrive at ABQ, you will need to get transportation to Santa Fe. The options for the 40+ mile trip include:

    a. Shuttle: Sandia Shuttle Express (www.sandiashuttle.com) (1-888-775-5696) runs a van shuttle from ABQ to hotels in the Santa Fe area. They will pick you up at the ABQ airport and drop you off at the hotel – Garrett’s Desert Inn. The fee is $25 per person for a one way trip or $45 per person for round trip transportation. The trip from the airport to the hotel will take approximately 70 to 90 minutes.
    b. Rail service: The New Mexico Rail Runner Express (www.nmrailrunner.com) travels between Albuquerque and Santa Fe. If you use this transportation option to go from Albuquerque to Santa Fe and back, you will have three legs to your trip from ABQ to the hotel and then back again upon your return to the airport:
    c. Free shuttle from ABQ airport to the downtown Albuquerque Rail Runner Express train station. The free shuttle from ABQ airport to the train station is ABQ RIDE Route 350 - Airport Express.
    d. Train ride on the Rail Runner Express from the downtown Albuquerque station to the Santa Fe Depot. The fee for the train ride from the downtown Albuquerque station to the Santa Fe Depot is $6 each direction ($4 if over age 65).
    e. Taxi ride (or walk) from the Santa Fe Depot to Garrett’s Dessert Inn. The distance from Santa Fe Depot to Garrett’s Desert Inn is 2/3rd of a mile (a short cab ride or a good walk). The taxi fare from Santa Fe Depot to the hotel will likely be approximately $6.00 ($3.00 base fare plus $2.75 each mile) (Capital City Cab, 505- 438-0000).
    f. Another available option is to hop a free ride on a van that travels from the Santa Fe Depot to spots around the downtown plaza area. This van normally stops about a block from Garrett's Desert Inn as it goes around the plaza area. The van may go all the way to the motel if several people call for a ride together a day or so in advance. The Phone Number for this city provided van service is 505-955-6581.

Rental Cars are available at the Albuquerque (ABQ) airport.

Santa Fe Municipal Airport (SAF) is the airport of Santa Fe. You will find some flights available into the airport but not as many as into/out of ABQ. The advantage of flying into SAF is that it is closer to where you need to end up. The disadvantage is that there are less flights to select from and those flights available may cost more. Travelers arriving at SAF will likely take a taxi to the hotel. The distance is 15.5 miles. Rental cars are also available at SAF.
